Select Day:
Day 1 - Inverness - Isle of Skye Tour - Portree
From Inverness, we head for lonely Achnasheen, then onwards through the beauty of Glen Carron, one of the finest in the North West Highlands. There is a stop at the viewpoint, so you can admire the views over Loch Carron and the ruins of Strome Castle below.
After a short break in Kyle of Lochalsh, we reach the “Magical Isle” by crossing the sweeping Skye Bridge.
Our island tour starts with a coastal drive enjoying stunning views over to the little island of Scalpay and the peaks of the Cuillin Hills.
We stop at Dunvegan Castle, home to the Clan Chief of the MacLeods for 800 years, which sits on a rocky headland overlooking Loch Dunvegan. Dating from around 1266, the castle is home to an impressive collection of artworks and artefacts, including a lock of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hair and the famous fairy flag.
Our time here will allow you to visit the castle or take a stroll into Dunvegan village, where you can enjoy lunch and browse the craft shops and galleries.
The Trotternish Peninsula is famed for its dramatic landscapes, fantastic mountain vistas, and sweeping coastal panoramas. During our tour of this scenic area, there will be several stops so you can capture the ever-changing views.
The Quiraing is a Jurassic landscape created by glaciers where we’ll find extraordinary peaks and pinnacles with unusual names such as “The Needle”, The Table” and “The Prison”.
At Kilt Rock, we’ll stop to see the dramatic sea cliff whose basalt columns are said to resemble the pleats in a kilt! It makes an impressive sight, especially with the Mealt waterfall plunging down the cliff face into the sea below.
Next is the cascading waters of Lealt Falls, followed by a scenic drive to reach the Old Man of Storr, a magnificent 50m black monolith that has appeared in several movies, including BFG, The Land that Time Forgot and Prometheus.
Our overnight stay is in the picturesque fishing port of Portree. Here you’ll find a wide range of restaurants and bars, but don’t forget to take a pre-dinner stroll down to the harbour to see the colourful houses for which the town is famed.
Overnight: Portree
Day 2 - Portree - Fairy Pools - Inverness
After awakening in our island surroundings and enjoying a hearty breakfast, we head off to discover one of the most magical attractions on Skye.
The Fairy Pools in Glenbrittle are a series of waterfalls feeding into stunning rock pools of crystal-clear water. It’s a walk of over 2 km over rough terrain, so packing appropriate footwear is recommended.
Our island tour continues with a stop at Sligachan to enjoy the impressive views of the towering Red and Black Cullins before heading to the village of Broadford for a lunch break.
Back on the mainland, there is a stop at the picturesque Eilean Donan Castle. Surrounded by majestic scenery, this iconic castle has been featured in numerous movies, including “Highlander”, the James Bond film “The World is not Enough” and “Maid of Honour.” There will be time to visit the castle to discover its fascinating history.
Our return to Inverness will take us through Glen Shiel, home to the “Five Sisters of Kintail”, a mountain range that boasts some of the most striking peaks in Scotland.
Later we’ll tour through Glen Moriston to reach Fort Augustus, then follow the mysterious banks of Loch Ness back to Inverness.

It was an excellent tour. The route from Inverness to the Isle of Skye and back was stunning, and since the route was different each way, we were able to see different scenery and historical attractions. We were entranced by Skye, and in the 24 hours or so we spent on the island we really got a good feel for the "real" island and not just the touristy bits. Our guide Marita really made it for us - her delightful sense of humor, vast knowledge, obvious love for her adopted country, perfect timing, and excellent driving skills combined to make the experience outstanding. She was cognizant of our interests and comfort at all times, and adapted the route to suit. There was a bit of miscommunication regarding our accommodations, but Marita leaped into the breach and helped sort it out to our complete satisfaction. I would book with this company again, and would specifically request Marita.
