Full Tour Itinerary
We leave Edinburgh and head into Stirlingshire, catching the arresting view of Stirling Castle before stopping at Kilmahog for refreshments and an opportunity to say hello to some long-horned “Hairy Coos” (Highland Cattle).
We cross into the Highlands and then travel by the banks of Loch Lubnaig into the area that was home to the folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor.
Soon we reach the rugged wilderness of Rannoch Moor and arrive at Glen Coe, possibly the most well-known of Scotland’s glens and the location of the massacre of Clan MacDonald in 1692.
We stop here to give you a chance to take some photographs and fully appreciate the melancholic atmosphere of this legendary glen.
By way of Loch Linnhe, we arrive in Fort William, where we’ll have a stop for lunch and then journey on through the exceptional scenery of the Great Glen, seeing Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain.
We follow the remarkable Caledonian Canal to reach the attractive, bustling small village of Fort Augustus.
Loch Ness is 38 km (24 miles) long and over 213 m (700 ft) deep, and is mainly known for reports of the appearance of its famous resident, ‘Nessie’, the Loch Ness monster. You’ll have the chance to do your own Nessie spotting as we linger at Loch Ness for roughly 2 hours.
While we are here, you will have the chance to take a fantastic cruise to enjoy stunning views of the Loch and the iconic ruins of Urquhart Castle.
Later we drive on to Inverness, known as the Capital of the Highlands. From here, our tour will begin to head back home, taking in the Cairngorms National Park, Grampian Mountains and Perthshire’s stunning Forest of Atholl.
We stop for a refreshment in Pitlochry, a resort town famously admired by Queen Victoria, before commencing our return to Edinburgh and the end of the Loch Ness tour.

Visit to Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness Cruise
Visit the hauntingly beautiful Urquhart Castle, once one of Scotland’s largest castles. The castle boasts a commanding presence overlooking the loch. After time to explore the castle and admire the views take to the water for a short cruise on Loch Ness.
Loch Ness Cruise
Take a cruise sailing the deepest waters of Loch Ness to enjoy amazing views of ruined Urquhart Castle.
You can purchase tickets for these options from your driver/guide on the day of the tour and payment is in cash only. For operational reasons, it’s not possible to visit Urquhart Castle on its own. You must purchase the Castle and Cruise ticket option.
Will there be stops for meals and are they included in the price of the tour?
Meals are not included in the tour price, but we will make stops where you can get refreshments and something to eat.
If you wish, you can bring a packed lunch or pick up lunch items at a previous stop.
Vegetarian food is widely available in Scotland.
Will there be a tour commentary?
Each tour is led by an experienced driver/guide who will provide an informative and entertaining commentary in English.
You’ll hear tales of the Clans, bloody battles and the famous characters that have shaped the history of Scotland. You will learn too of the landscape that surrounds you and of the nature that makes Scotland so special.
Be ready to have a laugh as well - you’re bound to be told some really corny jokes!
